What is the best brush to use on a poodle?

I have a toy poodle that weighs about 5 pounds. I clip and trim him myself and I keep him in a show cut with balls on his feet and tail and short on his rear with the full coat around his body. He hates to be brushed because it pulls his skin. (He has a very very low tolerance for any pain). His hair around his body is very thick and I have been using a brush with wire bristles. Is there any other brush that would get through his thick hair without pulling so much?

Is it safe to use bag balm on my toy poodle?

Yesterday my toy poodle got his hair cut. He seems to have some razor burn down by his testicles. I can tell it’s really bothering him. He’s been acting funny all day and he just keeps licking the spot that hurts. I have some bag balm but I didn’t know if it was safe to use due to the fact that he might be licking that area.
